Coaches Ben Waters and Chris Cozad along with the Storm 8U baseball team collected items for the SHHC during a Home Run Derby in July. In addition to collecting nonperishable food items, the team was also able to collect and donate $460. Summer donations are extra helpful to the food pantry. A boating accident at Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri claimed the life of Staunton resident Timothy Ridens, age 41. Ridens was boating on the lake with three friends as pas- sengers aboard Ridens's 1994 cigarette speed boat on Friday evening. It was reported by the Missouri State Highway Patrol that Ridens was driving too fast for conditions and was ejected from his boat after hit- ting a wake at approximately 6:45 p.m. Ridens's body was recovered from the lake on Saturday, July 30, and he was pronounced deceased at 11:05 a.m. by the Camden...

August promises to be a busy month with a variety of entertainment choices as Staunton hosts the Balloon Glow and Ribfest. The Balloon Glow has been scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 20, at Firemen's Park in Staunton. The Annual Tori Carroll Memorial 5K/1 Mile Fun Run will be held on Saturday Aug. 20, starting at 8 a.m. The event will take place on Saturday, Aug. 20, at the Staunton High School. Timothy "Tim" Ridens, 41, of Staunton, Ill., died unexpectedly on July 30, 2022, on the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. Tim was born on Aug. 13, 1980, to Larry and Diane Ridens. He married Buffy Struebig, and she survives. Tim was a longtime resident of Staunton. He graduated from Staunton High School in 1999. Mark Christian Holubasch, 52, of Livingston, Ill., formerly of Belleville, died Monday, July 25, 2022, at Community Hospital of Staunton. He was born Dec. 22, 1969, to George Joseph and Roberta Leona (Hoedebecke) Holubasch in St. Louis, Mo. Mark married his partner of 20 years, Jamie Ellis, on Sept. 1, 2018, at the St. Clair County Courthouse in Belleville, and she survives. Letter to the editor: I have over the decades watched many congressional hearings. The hearings about the Americans held in Iran, the McCarthy-era hearings, the Watergate hearings, and others.
