    The Staunton High School will have their parent/player meetings on Aug. 1 and Aug. 8 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Any Students playing a fall sport, must attend one of the meetings before they will be able to play in a game. If those dates do not work, another time can be set up with the Athletic Director/Administration by emailing Ms. Allan and Ms. Griffith.     Class of 1979 Baseball The 1979 baseball team recorded the program’s second straight 6-7 season and also duplicated the 4-5 South Central Conference mark from the previous year. SHS played competitive baseball during the campaign, with five of the seven losses coming by just one run. Coach Barry Deist’s squad included seniors Artie Billings; Jim Brown; Marty Cely; Bob Fletcher; and Jay Meckles.     The month of June has been a busy one for the Staunton Bulldogs basketball program. They participated in several Shootouts and Scrimmages and have served notice that they plan to be highly competitive next season. This summer, the Staunton varsity Bulldogs went 27-3 against a variety of different opponents. The JV team finished with a record of 12-3. Some schools they played were actually larger in enrollment.     It was an interesting day of golf on Thursday, June 27 for the SCC Women's Golf League. They were joined by a menagerie of animals. On hole No. 5, there were two groundhogs, on hole No. 6 a snake joined in and the group's favorite, deer, were frollicking on around hole No. 8, which made for a fun day at the club.     Class of 1977 Baseball The 1977 baseball team was directed by Barry Deist and finished with a record of 9-9 overall, including 6-5 in the South Central Conference. After being the season just 1-5, the Bulldogs reeled off eight wins in their next ten games before finishing the year with consecutive losses to Gillespie and Virden.     On Thursday, June 13 the SCC women's golf league ladies enjoyed a great day golfing. Golf was in beautiful condition. Even though the weather was hot, they had a good turnout. The low gross was the team of Karen Crosslin, Rosemarie Pickerill and Cynthia Albrecht Tipler (41). Crosslin, Pickerill and Albrecht also had a team birdie on hole number 7 and tied for low putts with the team of Martha Riley, Sue Stiegemeier and Linda Rohe.     Class of 1973 Baseball The 1973 baseball team was dominant in league action, finishing 9-1 and capturing the South Central Conference championship under the tutelage of Barry Deist.
