    By Kelly Costa During Monday night’s city council meeting, the council waived the first reading and approved an ordinance amending Chapter 38, Article 2, Section (I) (1) of the city of Staunton Revised Code of Ordinances. This ordinance pertains to delinquent water bill accounts and affords the water user the right to a hearing, if the water user exercises his right to a hearing within three days of the date of service noted on the water shut off notice.   • Kahl wins another term as Macoupin County sheriff

    Macoupin County Sheriff Shawn Kahl was the winner on Election Day over Repub- lication challenger Jared DePoppe. Kahl had 9,621 votes to DePoppe's 8,203. Three of Staunton's four wards preferred DePoppe, but the county over- all voted for Kahl. The race for county treasurer was won by Republication candidate Lillian Amber McGartland who unseated Democratic incumbent Roger Anderson. The final count was 17,623 to 10,948.     Kathy Lee Schultz, 65, of Staunton, Ill., died at Anderson Hospital in Maryville on Monday, Nov. 7, 2022. She was born Nov. 22, 1956, in Staunton, a daughter of Janet (Heinemeier) Schultz and the late John Louis Schultz She was employed as executive assistant to the president of Coastline Community College in Orange County, Calif., for 16 years. She then held the same position at Lewis and Clark Community College in Godfrey for approximately 20 years. Jones on July 12, 1949, in Gillespie. He was a farmer. Eugene was a veteran of the U.S. Marines after having served during Korea. She married Joe Naglich on July 18, 1952, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Worden, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 16, 2014.     Carlinville resident Ashley Bottoms, age 33, pled not guilty on Thursday to the charges filed against her involving the death of 3-year-old Hunter Drew. She is seeking a jury trial. Bottoms was charged with involuntary manslaughter and endangering the life of a child causing death on Oct. 20 when Bottoms threw 3-year-old Hunter Drew while breaking up a fight between two juveniles.
