Avery Cooper, 80, of Gillespie, Ill., died at his residence on June 28, 2023. He was born May 24, 1943, in St. Louis, Mo.

He was a retired master sergeant from the U.S. Army after having served from 1961-1989. He loved dogs, fishing, golfing and sailing.

He is survived by his children, MaryAlice Cooper of Gillespie, Teddy (Shannon) Cooper of Gillespie; and grandchildren, Gabriel Melchert and Orion Hoffman.

Remains will be cremated and interred in Camp Butler Cemetery.
