Staunton men 1st at Gillespie quad meet

The Staunton High School men's track team competed in a quad meet Tuesday, May 9, at Gillespie. In addition to Staunton, teams competing included Gillespie, Greenville, and Piasa (Southwestern). The Staunton team managed to win first place by posting 73 team points. Southwestern was 2nd with 66, Greenville 3rd with 64 and Gillespie 4th with 58 points.

All the Staunton competitors who placed in the top 5 are listed.

100m - Trace Trettenero placed 2nd in the 100m with a time of 11.59, just shy of the first place time 11.40 posted by Austin Stanton of Southwestern. Cody Kapp and Nathan Oller placed 5th-6th in the event.

200m - Nathan Oller took first place with his 24.59. Staunton's Hunter Wallace and Cody Kapp placed 4th and 5th.

800m/1600m: Troy Albertina placed 4th and Nicholas Monahan was 7th in the 800m. Monahan also placed 4th in the 1600m and 2nd in the 3200m event.

The team of Nathan Oller, Ethan Rantanen, Braden Buffington and Trace Trettenero won 1st place points in the 4x100 relay.

The team of Johnnie Vercoglio, Christian Haas, Victor Buehler and Hunter Wallace won 1st in the 4x200 relay

The team of Anthony Sansone, Trevor Myers, Haas, and Monahan was 5th in the 4x400 relay and the team of Meyers, Broc Best, Buffington, Albertina won 2nd in the 4x800 relay.

Jordan Snider set a PR of 11.7 to place 3rd in the shot put. He also placed 4th in the discus.

T. Ogata and V. Buehler matched jumps of 1.67m to win 1st and 2nd in the high jump event.

Trettenero was 1st with his PR(5.20m) and Christian Haas 2nd in the long jump event.

Placing 1-2 in the triple jump were Thomas Ogata and Hunter Wallace. Ogata had a 1st place PR of 11.61m and Wallace took 2nd with 10.85m.
