Lady Bulldogs end season at regionals

Haris Legendre (12) smashes one of 13 kills during the regional game vs. Hillsboro last week. The Bulldogs won in two sets, 25-16 and 25-13.

It may have ended much sooner than hoped for - but the Lady Bulldogs gave the local volleyball fans a year that any team could be proud of and one that fans will not soon forget.

Staunton opened their post season play at the Hillsboro Regional on Tuesday, Oct. 25,when they defeated the Lady Hiltoppers in two sets, 25-16 and 25-13.

Team leaders in individual stats: Kills - Haris Legendre 13, Kennedy Legendre 7, Danielle Russell 5, Taylor Nolan 1 and Grace Bekeske 1; Aces - Russell, Ele Feldmann, H. Legendre, Kylie Lucykow and K. Legendre, 1 ea.; Blocks - Nolan, Feldmann and Bekeske, 1 ea; Digs: Lucykow11, Allison Weller 7, H. Legendre 6, K. Legendre 4, Feldmann and Russell 3 each, Bekeske 1.

This win over Hillsboro set up the regional championship match between Staunton and Breese Central. The sets were close and the Lady Bulldogs were always in contention but ended up losing in two sets 25-20 and 25-14.

The Lady Bulldogs and their fans have every reason to be proud of the season which ended with an impressive 29-8 season record and undefeated 8-0 in conference play – so our sincere congratulations go to this team on their highly successful year and thanks for such an exciting and unforgetable season.

In other Regionals

Pana was eliminated by Newton in the Salem Regional Championship in two sets 26-24 and 25-12.

Breese Mater Dei won the Trenton Wesclin Regional by barely defeating Roxana. The Lady Shells won the first set 26-24 but Breese Mater Dei went on the win the next two 25-17 and 25-19.
