After going into extra innings, the Bulldogs take a tough loss 5-4 at Vandalia.

The Staunton High School baseball team traveled to Vandalia on Tuesday, April 19. The Bulldogs lost this game in extra innings. They scored 2 in the second inning and added 1 in the fifth to take a 3-0 lead but that was short lived as Vandalia scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th. Both teams added 1 in the 6th and at the end of seven innings, the scored was still tied at 4-4. Staunton was unable to score in the top of the 8th but Vandalia did cross the plate in the bottom to take the win.

Staunton runs were scored by Sam Best (2), Cole Sternickle (1), and Matthew Sievers (1). Sievers led the hitting for Staunton with 2 including a double and earned 1 RBI. Preston Denny, Adam Overby and Luke Meyer also each had 1 hit for Staunton.

On Friday, April 22, the Bulldogs got back on the winning side by defeating Greenville 3-1.

Luke Meyer pitched a complete game. He struckout 9, walked 1, gave up 5 hits and 1 run.

Staunton scored 1 run in the 3rd and Dillon Pritchett hit a two run homer in the fourth giving Staunton their 3 run total. Sam Best, Cayden Silvester and Pritchett each scored 1 for the Bulldogs. Hits were by Matthew Sievers (2), Silvester, Pritchett and Cole Sternickel (1 ea.). RBIs were credited to Sievers (1) and Pritchett (2)

This week, the Bulldogs were scheduled to play at North Mac on Monday 4/25 and at Litchfield on Tuesday 4/26. They will play at home vs Southwestern on Friday, April 29 and at Marquette in Alton on Saturday, April 30. Saturday's game starts at 10 am.
