The Staunton Terriers finished the 2021 calendar year with a sweep at Hillsboro on Monday, Dec. 20. The 8th grade team played an excellent game, winning by the score of 39-8. Carter Legendre pumped in a game high 17 points to lead the attack. He was joined in the scoring column by Logan Tuetken (6 pts.), Bryce Coalson (5 pts.), Aaron Bodner (4 pts.), Cason Kapp (3 pts.), Ashton Rizzi (2 pts.), and Braden Pfeiffer (2 pts.). The 7th grade team also won big by the score of 50-13. Luke Moore (13 pts.) and Owen Looney (12 pts.) both notched double figures for SJHS. They were aided by Lucas Dillon (6 pts.), Isiah Laux (5 pts.), Owen Rizzi (4 pts.), Ty Simpson (4 pts.), Chase Embry (2 pts.), Braylen Brown (2 pts.), and Lucas Coalson (2 pts.).
The Terriers started 2022 with a trip to Medora to take on Southwestern on Wednesday, Jan. 5. The 8th grade team started the first quarter with a 11-0 run and ended the game with a 10-2 fourth quarter en route to a 34-19 victory. Coalson nailed three 3’s and led the way with 15 points, while Bodner (6 pts.), Rizzi (4 pts.), Elliot Frank (3 pts.), Kapp (3 pts.), and Legendre rounded out the scoring. The 7th graders were trailing with just seconds left in the third quarter before finishing with a 38-24 victory. Moore pumped in 19 points to lead all scorers, while Looney (9 pts.), Dillon (6 pts.), Laux (2 pts.), and Coalson (2 pts.) also contributed to the cause.
January 6th was 8th Grade Night for the Terriers, as SJHS celebrated the following individuals: Logan Tuetken, Ashton Rizzi, Braden Pfeiffer, Carson Dugger, Brody Hill, Nate Oller, Aaron Bodner, Elliot Frank, Cason Kapp, Bryce Coalson, Matthew Overby, Reese Bohlen, Carter Legendre, Cole Rather, and manager Quincy Laux. Despite falling behind 9-0 after one quarter, the Terriers celebrated the night in fine fashion with a 34-24 victory over Carlinville. Rizzi paced the squad with 12 points. He was joined in the scoring column by Bodner (7 pts.), Coalson (5 pts.), Legendre (5 pts.), Overby (3 pts.), and Rather (2 pts.). The 7th graders were also victorious by the score of 44-10. Laux and Moore led the way with 10 points each. Looney (6 pts.), Dillon (6 pts.), Coalson (6 pts.), Rizzi (4 pts.), and Podwojski (2 pts.) also scored for Staunton.
