Bahn

Sharon Scholl began her life and grew up in West Virginia. She obtained her teaching degree from West Virginia University.

In 1950 Sharon met the love of her life, Joe Bahn of Staunton, Illinois. At that time, she was working for KMOX radio in St. Louis. A short while later, they were married and Joe took Sharon to live with him in Staunton. Joe and his brother Gene owned and managed Bahn’s Super Valu. It was in Staunton that the couple started to fill their home with children. Three to be exact: Brad Bahn, Lisa (Bahn) Bowen, and Chuck Bahn. Sharon was a hands-on mother, staying home with her children until the youngest became school-aged.

While raising her children, Sharon did manage to carve out a little time for herself. She played bridge on an expert level and she played tennis on the weekends.

Sharon was very ambitious and continued on to earn a Master’s degree in Psychology from SIU. She made lifelong friendships. Once her youngest child started school, Sharon began teaching at Worden Elementary School. The idea of “open classrooms'' was near and dear to her heart. At that time, this concept was new to education.

Little did Sharon and Joe know that upon visiting her mother and brother in Phoenix, Arizona, that they would both fall in love with the beauty of the desert. It was so mesmerizing that they packed up the Bahn family and moved to Mesa, Arizona. The year was 1972.

The desert was very fruitful for both Sharon and Joe. They settled into careers as real estate agents. This line of work afforded them the freedom they longed for. Giving them the opportunity to meet new people while sharing the beauty of the Arizona desert.

Upon retirement Sharon found more time to spend with her grandchildren and time to travel abroad with Joe, her forever loving husband.

Sharon is survived by her husband Joe, of 70 years, sons Brad and Chuck Bahn (Veronica), daughter Lisa (Roland), five grandchildren, Joe Bowen, Alex Bowen, Alexys (Bahn) Sturman, C.J. and Erick Bahn and three great-grandchildren.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation.

May she rest in peace!
