The Staunton High School graduation ceremony was held May 28. Six valedictorians, Danielle Atwood, Kristi Brown, Christin Cavoretto, Julia Kays, Mickey Schutzenhofer and Megan Sievers, and two salutatorians, Beth Moore and Tom Stewart, were recognized.

Lois Ann Ruehrup and John Bradley Simpson were married Nov. 21, 1998, in Sappington, Mo.

Elton and Norma Best announced plans to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on June 13.

Martin and Thelma Golden of Bethalto celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on May 15.

Fern and Edsel Celsor of Godfrey announced plans to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on June 12.

A son was born to Derek and Tracy Baugh of Prairietown on March 18 in Alton.

Annamae Stewart (82) of Mt. Olive died May 27 at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield.

Thomas William Mayhew (87) of Sherman, formerly of Mt. Olive, died May 29 at St. Johns Hospital North in Springfield.

Staunton High School graduated 109 Friday night. Valedictorians were Tara Allen, Deanna Braman, Carmi Cioni, Kathryn Long and Eric Yarnik. Salutatorian was Holleh Taheri.

Eighth grade promotion ceremonies at Staunton Elementary were held with a class of 112 students.

Alderman Fred Lotter resigned as chairman of the Subdivision Committee because he was angry that the mayor did not make him chairman of the Utilities Committee.

A daughter was born to Samantha Braman and Justin Gerhardt on May 25.

Ralph and Lorraine Blotevogel will celebrate their 50th anniversary on June 5 with an open house.
