March 26, 2024

A Staunton Girl Scout held a hot dog and chili sale in front of Staunton's Duda Ace Hardware, located at 500 W. Main St., on Saturday, March 23, 2024 to raise funds for her Girl Scout Gold Award Project.'

Lily Dothager, a junior at Staunton's Community High School, is a member of Girl Scout Troop 6145. The funds raised from the sale will be used to remodel the bathrooms at the Firemen's Park, near the pavilions, on Montgomery Street in Staunton.

A Girl Scout earns the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award in Girl Scouting, by developing and carrying out a lasting solution to issues in their neighborhood and beyond. The projects requires a minimum of 80-hours of work and service to be put in. The desire is to not only attain a personal achievement, but to provide or lay foundation that will have a lasting impact on a community. Most importantly, do so with a Girl Scout taking a leadership role in the project.
