In Carlinville, on March 14, 2024, Macoupin County State's Attorney Jordan J. Garrison announced today that 24-year-old Matthew J. Brown of Jerseyville was found guilty of Criminal Sexual Assualt and aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse after a one day bench trial in front of Honorable Joshua A. Meyer.

At trial on March 4, 2024, it was shown that in early Sept. of 2020, a 15-year-old minor reported to the Macoupin County Sheriff's Department that she had been sexually assaulted by Brown while he was a house guest at her home.
