Payad

 

Doris Jean Payad, 94, of Staunton, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 8, 1929 in Ft. Worth, Texas, the daughter of the late Lester Hugh Ogden and Anastasia (Koziczkowski) Ogden.

Doris married Charles H. Johnson in 1950 and together in Staunton, they raised five children and Charles preceded her in death. Following the death of Charles, Doris married Harold Payad in 1994 and they remained together until he preceded her in 2016.

Doris was a lifelong parishioner at St. Michael Catholic Church in Staunton. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and homemaker. Doris’s long career as a Registered Nurse spanned for over 50 years which displayed her compassion and caring for others. Doris held numerous nursing positions including Director of Nursing, Office Nurse, and Hospital Nurse.

Her other passions included gardening vegetables and canning, tending to her flowers, and growing beautiful Irises. She also enjoyed fishing, cooking, and baking for local fundraisers such as St. Michael’s Octoberfest, VFW chicken dinners, and Masonic turkey dinners. Doris took great pride in being a lifetime member of the Staunton VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and families.


Doris is survived by her three daughters, Linda Neylon (Paul Damkoehler), Dorothy (George) Parides, and Elizabeth (Daniel) Sherfy; three siblings, Joseph (Suzy) Ogden, Sylvester Ogden, and Mary Campbell; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Morell; son, Roger Johnson; a sister, Garnet Kisor; and brother, James Ogden.

Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton and Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton, with Father Thomas Hagstrom officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Staunton. Memorials are suggested to either St. Michael Catholic Church in Staunton or to Staunton VFW Post No. 1241.
