Charles Petroline, 94, passed away at Litchfield Health and Rehab in Litchfield on Feb. 3, 2024. He was born on Dec. 1, 1929 to the late Andrew Petroline and Theresa (Frey) Petroline in White City. He married Florence Phyllis Grippi on May 9, 1953 in St. Louis, Mo., and she preceded him in death.
He attended White City Grade School and Mt. Olive High School. He served in the United States Marines and participated in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged. After his service, he worked in construction and was a serviceman for Illinois Power and Gas Company, now Ameren. He was also a member of the Ascension Church (St. John Paul II) Catholic Church in Mt. Olive and a member of the Knights of Columbus (4th degree), American Legion, Croatian Lodge, and Laborers Local 338 in Wood River.
He is preceded in death by his sons, Robert, Danny and Charles Jr.; a grandson, Kevin Petroline; four brothers, Frank, Adam, Paul, and Joseph; three sisters, Eva Tun, Elizabeth Wuske, and Francis Soltysiak.
He is survived by three sons, Andrew (Linda) Petroline of Staunton, Phillip (Dena) Petroline of Sorento, and Jerry (Melba) Petroline of Sorento; two daughters, Christine (James) Costello of Mt. Olive, Karen (Tom) Harmon of Mt. Olive; one daughter-in-law, Lori Petroline of Staunton; seven grandsons; three granddaughters; nine great-grandchildren; and one brother-in-law, Clarence Grippi.
Visitation took place at St. John Paul II Catholic Church in Mt. Olive and interment took place at Calvary Cemetery in Mt. Olive. Becker and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
