Suzanne’s Treasure Chest owned by Suzanne Smiley hosted its grand opening.

Stan Tjaden and Julie Schuette were married on June 13, 1998, in Staunton.

A son was born to Ryan Penzotti and Amy Scroggins of Staunton on Jan. 6 at Anderson Hospital.

Mr. and Mrs. Harry Odorizzi celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on Nov. 27, 1998.

Art and Ruth Stirrat celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on Feb. 6.

Vicki Lynn Leonnardt (43) of Mt. Olive died Jan. 22 at her residence.

Carl “Joe” Albrecht (78) of Staunton died Jan. 18 at Hampton Nursing Care in Alhambra.

Dwight D. Parker (54) of Staunton died Jan. 18 at the home of his sister in Staunton.

Anna N. Lowder (94) of Worden died Jan. 22 at Blu Fountain Manor in Godfrey.

Frances Turcol of Hillsboro died Jan. 18 at her residence.

Ruby L. Straub of Pleasanton, Calif., formerly of Edwardsville, died Jan. 22 at Castro Valley Memorial Medical Center in Pleasanton.

Leland Maxeiner (89) of Dorchester died Jan. 20 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Long-time principal of Staunton Elementary, Mark Skertich, submitted his retirement request to the Staunton Board of Education. He plans to retire at the end of the 2012 school year.

Candidates for city positions were announced. Three people are running for mayor; one for city clerk; two for treasurer; and nine people are running for six different alderman positions.

Four people are running for three positions on the Staunton School Board.

Four people are running for township trustee.

The basketball Bulldogs won the Macoupin County Championship by defeating Girard 49-44.

A daughter was born to Bruce and Nicki (Whitfield) Striegel of Gillespie on Jan. 13;

Twin sons were born to John and Brandi (Kirkwood) Miles of Bunker Hill on Dec. 6.

Josh Rucker and Keely Meyer were married Nov. 22, 2008, in Staunton.
