DC Waste and Recycling, Inc. and Republic Services announced as city trash haulers

During Monday night’s city council meeting, City Clerk Dennis Stiegemeier announced in the City Clerk’s Report that the city has two licensed trash haulers for January 1 through December 31, 2024. They are DC Waste & Recycling, Inc. and Republic Services. DC’s rate is $24 per month, and Republic’s rate is $51 per quarter; these rates are in effect until the end of the calendar year. If a customer is being charged incorrectly, please contact the trash hauler directly; the City Clerk’s Office cannot discuss an individual’s account with your trash hauling company.

In Correspondence, the city received a letter from Christian Hasselberg, the Tour de Donut Race Coordinator on behalf of the Boeing Employees Bicycle Club. In the letter, Hasselberg thanked the city for its $2,700 donation as well as for all of the city’s efforts in support of the annual race.

In Park and Civic Improvement, the city council accepted a bid from Cenpro Services, Inc. for asbestos removal and disposal at property located at 317 East 5th Street for $3,600.


The city council approved a quote from Midwest Turf Management for annual Weed Control and Fertilizer at the Soccer Fields and Little League Baseball Fields. This is a two year contract with the fixed cost being $3,166 per year.

In Utilities and Water, the city council approved a quote from Flo-Systems for pump rebuild/repairs at a cost not to exceed $8,000.

In Streets and Sewer, the city council approved Quote #1021161 from Brandon Industries, Inc. for a street light replacement at Canadian Crossing Subdivision for $1,559.

The city council agreed to pay Invoice #5583496 to Vandevanter Engineering for the Annual Maintenance Service Contract for Small Flygt Lift Stations in the amount of$3,282.

The city council also agreed to pay Invoice #5583495 to Vandevanter Engineering for the Annual Maintenance Service Contract for the Main Lift Station in the amount of $5,515.

In Judiciary, the city council approved Ordinance #2229 a Pre-Annexation Agreement with Janet F. Johnson regarding property located at 9136 Renken Road but not physically annexing the property to the city’s corporate boundaries at this time. (PIN #12-2-04-11-12-201-002 / Madison County).

The city council approved Ordinance #2230 granting a Zoning Amendment and Setback Variance for real property located at 407 South Hibbard Street.

Those present for the meeting were City Clerk Dennis Stiegemeier, City Treasurer Cindy Pirok, Public Works Director Mike Kuethe, Aldermen Ryan Machota, David Manning, David Dias, Terry Tipler, and Kristy Berg. City Attorney Phil Lading attended electronically. Mayor Craig Neuhaus, Police Chief Jeff Doerr, and Alderman Matthew McKee were absent. The next city council meeting will be on Monday, February 12, 2024 at 7 p.m.
