City Council to seek bids for asbestos abatement for property on Fifth Street

In new business, the city council voted to cancel the council meeting on Dec. 26, 2023 due to the Christmas holiday. In the City Clerk’s Report, City Clerk Dennis Steigemeier announced that the City Clerk’s Office, as well as all public works employees, will be off on Dec. 25 and Dec. 26 for the upcoming Christmas holiday, except for one water treatment plant employee.

Steigemeier also asked council members to have the mandatory Sexual Harassment Training completed by Dec. 31, 2023.

In park and civic improvement, the council voted to seek bids for asbestos abatement for the property located at 317 East Fifth Street.

In finance and claims, the city council agreed to pay an Invoice from Fehr Graham for professional services rendered regarding the North Street Lift Station and Force Main Project in the amount of $1,452 and to be paid from Budget Line Item 56.45.865.0.

In utilities and water, the city council approved a Quote from PAX Water Technologies for replacement PAX Mixers in the ground storage tank at the water treatment plant in the amount of $7,600 and to be paid from line item 38.45.515.1.

In personnel, the city council agreed to hire Michelle Jones for the part time janitorial position for city owned buildings.

In judiciary, the city council waived the first reading and approved an Ordinance regarding the Illinois Paid Leave for All Workers Act for the City of Staunton.

The city council waived the first reading and approved an Ordinance for a Charity Roadblock by the Staunton High School Cheer Squad at the intersection of Main Street and Route 4.

Finally, the council approved the Resolution #2023-30, a Professional Services Agreement.

Those present for the meeting were Mayor Craig Neuhaus, City Clerk Dennis Stiegemeier, City Treasurer Cindy Pirok, Police Chief Jeff Doerr, City Attorney Phil Lading, Public Works Director Mike Kuethe, Aldermen Ryan Machota, David Manning, David Dias, Terry Tipler, Kristy Berg, and Matthew McKee. The next city council meeting will be on Monday, Jan. 8, 2024 at 7 p.m.
