Gillespie tree lighting set for Nov. 26

The community of Gillespie will welcome the holiday season at 6 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 26, with the official lighting of the community Christmas tree in the open lot next to United Community Bank at the intersection of Pine and Macoupin Streets. The 20-foot live white spruce will sport upward of 1,000 colorful LED lights and will feature Ben-Gil Elementary School students who will help the crowd with a handful of holiday carols.

“Christmas is for kids,” said Parker. “Our Christmas tree lighting is a great way to involve our local children and get them involved in supporting community events.”
