Staunton Star - Times - Published in the Interest of the Staunton Community for Over 143 Years

The City of Staunton is currently accepting applications for a State of Ill. housing grant. It is not necessary for the homeowners who filled out applications for last year’s grant to resubmit as this is a reapplication and the applications on file are acceptable. The grant is funded by the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO).

The grant will allow 100% funding to complete rehabilitation to homes for work such as replacing roofs, doors, windows, HVAC, deteriorating floors, siding, plumbing, and electrical at no cost to the homeowner.

As part of the grant approval process, the city is required to complete survey forms for Owner-Occupied Low-Income Homeowners. The grant is based on a point system where lower income homeowners receive more points, but the grant allows for income levels of up to $60,000 per household to qualify based on the numbers of residents in the household. Homes must be single family units occupied as the principal residence. Residents must live inside the Incorporated City Limits. Manufactured homes on a permanent foundation, paying only property taxes are also eligible. Currently trailers that are not on a permanent foundation and paying a privilege tax, pad fee, are not eligible.

Applications must be submitted prior to Dec. 31 to be eligible for the program. A public meeting will be held on Dec. 4 and applicants are highly encouraged to attend. The meeting notice will be published the week of Nov. 20 in the The Staunton Star-Times.
