Francis “Frank” L. Stanko, 84, of Sherman, was called home by the Lord on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at his home. He was born October 2, 1938, in Williamson, IL, the son of George H. and Christine (Morris) Stanko. He married Pamela K. Parrish on May 23, 1974 and she survives.

Also surviving are his two sons, Doug (Christy and son, Josh) Stanko of Channahon, IL and David (Jenna) Stanko of Melbourne, Australia; five grandchildren, Jenessis, Timothy (Katy), Adelle, Willard, and Henry; one great-grandchild, Octavia and with one on the way; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Julia Sutton; and brother, George H. Stanko, Jr.

Frank was a resident of Sherman and previously of Glen Carbon and Staunton, IL. He graduated from Staunton High School in 1956 and attended the University of Toledo where he played football. He received his BS and MS in Education from SIU Edwardsville. He taught in the Taylorville, Mt. Olive and Cahokia school districts, where he ended his career as the principal at Penniman Elementary school.

Over his lifetime he made many trips to Montauk, MO where he loved to trout fish. Frank also loved to golf, especially with his sons Doug and David, and also with his dear friends Dennis, Bob and Otto. He was a master of many trades, and loved assisting friends and family as a mechanic, carpenter, electrician, landscaper, plumber, and pool maintenance expert. He had the perfect tool for every job.

Frank was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church and a life-long St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Visitation: 10 – 11 am, Friday, August 4, 2023 at Staab Funeral Home – Sherman.

Funeral Mass: 11:30 am, Friday, August 4, 2023 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church with Reverend Fredrick Chima Mbierre officiating. A burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Vianney Catholic Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
