Salter

William "Norman" Salter, Sr., 89, of San Diego, Calif., died Tuesday, July, 25, in San Diego, Calif. He was born Nov. 29, 1933, in Livingston, Ill. He was the son of Albert and Helen Salter. He married Jeannie Zralka on Aug. 11, 1956, and she preceded him in death in 2021, after 65 years of marriage.

Norm joined the Navy in 1952 and served for five years during the Korean War. After the war, he became the owner and operator of his own company, Salter Plumbing and HVAC. He worked for more than 60 years in that profession. In private life, he never totally left his farming roots and dabbled in livestock raising and eventually settled in gardening. He enjoyed telling stories and jokes. His greatest passions were fishing, football and basketball. He was involved with coaching football at Helix High School in the late 50s and assisted coaching varsity girls basketball at Christian High School in the early 90s, helping them win the State Championship for five years. He was also an avid fisherman and lover of music.

He is survived by his children, Shrisse Ninteman, William "Bill" Salter, Jr., Sallie Heger; grandchildren, Matthew, Robert, Elizabeth, Christopher, Kimberly, Ryan, Theresa, Melissa, Andrea, Silas; and 23 great-grandchildren.
