Heigert

Harold N. Heigert, 93, of Staunton, Ill., died at his residence on Saturday, July 8, 2023. He was born March 28, 1930, in Staunton to Benjamin and Frances (Dietz) Heigert. He married Loretta Mlekush on Sept. 27, 1958, in Vandalia, and she survives.

Harold was a supervisor at Granite City Steel in Granite City for over 30 years. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Benjamin was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Staunton and Staunton Knights of Columbus #2197. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and helping his son Tom, with farming.

He is survived by his wife, Loretta Heigert of Staunton; his children, Valerie Moore of Springfield, Diane (Rick) Coronado of McLeansboro, Thomas (Laura) Heigert of Staunton; grandchildren, Stephanie (Thomas) Schofield of Mt. Olive, Jessica Rodgers of Springfield, Chris (Brenna) Coronado of McLeansboro; one great-grandchild, Haley Shryock of Springfield; one sister, Lorraine Heigert of Staunton; and several nephews and cousins. Benjamin was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Elmer Heigert; sister-in-law, Doris Heigert; and a nephew, Kenneth Heigert.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Thursday, July 13, at St Michael Catholic Church in Staunton. Funeral services will be held at noon with Rev. Thomas Hagstrom officiating. Interment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery in Staunton.
