Plan for sewer operation accepted

by Kelly Costa

The Staunton City Council accepted a plan for operation and maintenance of Ginseng Creek storm sewer at the meeting held Monday night.

The reconstruction of the Ginseng Creek box culvert doesn't require a user connection program since it operates by way of natural drainage through the area that it serves. Drainage from the downtown area will migrate by surface drainage and collect into inlets and then drain through the Ginseng Creek. No program is necessary for this project.

The operator or manager for the Ginseng Creek box culvert is already in place. Mike Kuethe has over 30 years experience dealing with city utilities and has proven to be capable of maintaining the Ginseng Creek box culvert.

City employees will be responsible for periodic inspections, removing blockages, making repairs and preparing reports.

Installation of the Ginseng Creek box culvert is being financed through a monthly fee assessed to each homeowner within the city.

The council also approved the installation of stop signs at the intersection of West Olive Street with North Hibbard Street resulting in a four-way stop; and at Oxford Road with Pineda Lane making a three-way stop. Moving violations at the locations will be enforced 30 days after the installation of the stop signs.

The council voted to reimburse Mississippi Culture 75 percent of the completed building improvements ($17,967.93 of $23,957.24).

Amusement licenses and video gaming licenses were issued to R&B's Family Restaurant, Skeeter's Pub, Berry's Bar and Concordia Hall. A video gaming license was issued to Cash Out Gaming.
