51 dogs vaccinated at Adopt-A-Pet's low-cost clinic

This canine was satisfied with the whole process of receiving a vaccination at the recent low-cost clinic sponsored by Adopt-A-Pet.

On Saturday, May 20, Benld Adopt-A-Pet held a low-cost vaccination clinic at 213 W. Main Street in Mt. Olive.

"This was our first attempt at staging such an event and we believe that, all in all, things went reasonably well." said Bill Castagno, communi- cations director at Adopt-A-Pet.

Both annual and rabies shots were made available to residents of Macoupin County at a cost of $4 each. A total of 51 dogs were vaccinated from several towns, including Carlinville, Gillespie, Mt. Olive, Staunton and Scottville. Also, free engraved pet I.D. tags were available to all who wanted them, and each participant received a goodie bag of treats for their pets.

Benld Adopt-A-Pet's Executive Director Carol Richards wishes to thank all who assisted with this event, including Dr. Pastrovich and his daughter Kate. Also Dawn Kieffer for making her dog training facility available, and to all the other volunteers who assisted in any way with putting on and making this event possible.

"Unfortunately, due to a larger-than-anticipated turnout, and the limited number of vaccines that we had available, we regrettably had to turn a few people away, for which we apologize," said Castagno.

They are, however, considering holding more such vaccination clinics in the future, and they will be publicizing these events in the local me- dia, so please watch for them.
