Kristy Berg - Candidate Ward 2 Alderman

March 22, 2023

Age: 61 years old

Occupation: Retired Product Manager Tubular Steel, Inc.

Family: Cynthia Albrecht Tipler, wife; James W. Tipler, father (deceased); Janice Tipler, mother; Janet Baum, sister; Jim Tipler, brother.

Education: Stallings Grade School (Pontoon Beach, IL), Staunton Elementary School, Staunton High School, Livingston High School – Class of 1979, Lewis & Clark Community College

Background / Experience: I started working while in high school as a union laborer for my family owned construction business. I also worked part-time at Diamond’s Truck Stop while going to college as well as Sievers Sports. In October of 1980 I was offered and accepted a job at Tubular Steel in Staunton and retired as DOM product manager in 2022 after 42 years with Tubular Steel.

In addition to my 42 years of work experience with Tubular Steel I was also on the Board of Directors of the Staunton Country Club for 14 years as well as recently being elected to the Board of Directors of Concordia Hall. I currently serve as the Ward 4 alderman for the City of Staunton.

Why are you seeking office? I was asked to fill the vacancy on the council when Jeff Scanzoni resigned as he relocated to Livingston in August. Working for a fortune 500 company for my career I felt that I could bring value from a business and relationship perspective to the council. Since joining the council I have found a great sense of accomplishment working with the community and other members of the council to continue the work of previous administration. The available time that retirement has afforded me allows for a very flexible schedule and the ability for more communication and hands-on experience with our team of city department heads. I enjoy helping others be successful through effective communication and delegation promoting continued personal growth and accountability.

What are your top goals for the position?

• Overall safety and welfare of our community

• Effective communication and transparency of the council

• Strategic growth and sustainability for our community businesses

• Collaboration with county, state, and federal entities to provide grant and funding opportunities to maximize the community needs and minimize the overall cost to the city and our residents.

In closing, I ask for your support and vote as the Ward 4 Alderman in the April 4th election.
