Gillespie man sentenced to a decade in prison on meth delivery case

Macoupin County State's Attorney Jordan J. Garrison announced on Thursday, March 16, that Frank D. Ashmore, age 28, of Gillespie was sentenced by the Honorable April Troemper to 10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the offense of methamphetamine delivery, a class X felony. The defendant also received the maximum allowed sentence of 10 years for possession of ammunition by a felon and the maximum allowed sentence of five years for theft.

In March of 2020, Mt. Olive officer Joshua Montine attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Ashmore. He refused to stop and fled in the vehicle. Eventually, the vehicle came to a stop and Ashmore ran from the vehicle on foot. Assisting officers were able to apprehend Ashmore who was found with approximately 60 grams of methamphetamine.

"I want to commend the Mt. Olive Police Department and the Macoupin County Sheriff's Office for their efforts in these matters," said Garrison. "Methamphetamine has been destroying our communities, and law enforcement's continued efforts at curtailing this plague must be commended."

Ashmore is not eligible for parole until 2027.
