Helen Joan "Jody" Zarr, 86, of Mt. Olive, Ill., died on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023, at her home. She was born on Feb. 8, 1936, in Shoal Creek Township to Herman J. Schweppe and Goldie B. (Seeger) Schweppe. She married John Andrew Zarr at the home of Ferdinand and Pauline Girardi in Benld on Feb. 16, 1963, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 19, 2013.

She attended school in Livingston. Mrs. Zarr was a self-employed beautician and owned and operated a business that sold crafts, furniture and offered quilting classes. She was a member of the Mt. Olive VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Zarr enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking, planting flowers, watching hummingbirds, spending time with family on Sundays and St. Louis Cardinals games.

She is survived by her two sons, Terry (Dianne) Zarr of Staunton, John David (Andrea) Zarr of Glen Carbon; and grandchildren, Jonathan and Andrew Zarr. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; one sister, Nedra Schweppe; and one brother, Bobby Donald Schweppe.

Funeral services were held at Becker and Son Funeral Home in Mt. Olive on Monday, Jan. 9, officiated by Gary Hanover. Burial was in Union Miners Cemetery in Mt. Olive.
