Exterior work at the Sanks Machining building on Route 4 was completed allowing crews to begin work on the inside.

The SHS Lady Bulldogs basketball team won the championship at Winterfest Tournament at CORL in Centralia. Caidy Tuetken was named Tournament MVP. She and Ele Feldmann and Haris Legendre were selected to the All-Tournament team.

SHS Seniors named Illinois State Scholars: Sam Best, Joseph Cisler, Jonathan Daugherty, Koral Keehner, Teagan Lorenz , Kendall Meyer, Cayden Silvester, and Jacqueline Vercoglio.

Lucy Taylor and Maxwell Eldred earned the highest PSAT/NMSQT scores at Staunton High School.

Staunton 7th Grade Jr. High Basketball Terriers ended their season with a 21-1 record. Their only loss was to East St. Louis Lincoln in post season play.

A Navion L-17B Single engine aircraft made an emergency landing in an open field off Route 4 near DeCamp Road on Sunday, Feb. 20, after experiencing a loss of power. No injuries were reported.

Brett Allen, current elemetary principal, was named CUSD #6 school superintendent effective July 1.

The school board accepted the resignation of Nancy Werden as education services coordinator. She will be the new principal at Worden Elementary School.

Jerry E. Shafer (36), formerly of Staunton, was sentenced to 20 years in the Illinois Dept. of Corrections after entering a guilty plea to predatory criminal sexual assault, a Class X Felony.

Deundrea Holloway (22) of Litchfield was arrested in Gillespie for stealing a bicycle. Police later learned he was a suspect in a gruesome Alton murder.

Brianna Kruse advanced to National competition after winning the FFA State Creed Speaking title. Staunton FFA was honored at state convention.

Robert Turner’s (Wilsonville) clemency hearing was delayed due to the murder victim’s family never being notified by the Illinois Prison Review Board.

New administrators were hired for Staunton School District. Ryan Pirok was hired as junior high administrator, William Carpenter as interim junior high principal/principal mentor, and Michael Kelly as part-time educational services administrator.

The Staunton Firemen’s Celebration took place over the weekend. It included the homecoming, parade and fireworks.
