Girls end season with 21-8 record

The SHS basketball Lady Bulldogs are competing in the Greenville Regional, part of the Waverly Sectional and the Beardstown Super-Sectional.

In the second round of State tournament play on Feb. 14, the Staunton Lady Bulldogs defeated Pittsfield (Coop) 49-44. The Staunton girls entered the tournament with a 19-7 season record and had received first round bye.

In the opening round, Southwestern eliminated Roxana 39-34. Pittsfield Co-op eliminated EA/WR 53-25.

The win over Pittsfield, advanced the Lady Bulldogs to play Alton Marquette for the Roxana Regional championship originally scheduled for Feb. 17. A dose of ice and snow Thursday caused a postponement and the game was rescheduled to Friday, Feb. 18, at Roxana.

The Lady Bulldogs were trailing by just 5 points at halftime but the third quarter belonged to the Marquette Explorers as they outscored Staunton 26-11 giving them a 53-33 lead after three periods. Final score was 65-48 in favor of Alton Marquette.


Caidy Tuetken and Haris Legendre were leading scorers for the Lady Dogs with 14 points each. Feldmann scored 9, Billings 4, Frank 3, Kinder and Troeckler 2 each.
