The Macoupin Art Collective, also known as The MAC, is a school of arts and crafts. They host many educational as well as entertaining events throughout the year all over the county. Their main location is in Staunton however they have successfully been able to travel with their Art Bus. The Art Bus has allowed them to share their mission with surrounding cities. For The MAC’s current class schedule please visit macart.org.

Children’s Day’s were held every Thursday in June at the Staunton Public Library.

The Summer Reading Program sessions were held in June, with Gary Naglich, Jo Nolan and the rest of the library assisting in various ways. The theme was Read, Renew and Repeat! Story, art activity, games and attendance prizes were awarded to participants, ages three and up.

The library has many great books to read, though they also have audiobooks, access to e-books, movies for adults and children, reading kits to explore, and many games. There are multiple activities to conquer while inside the library such as magnetic blocks, magnet station, brain teaser cards, floor puzzles, tool set, contraption blocks, circuit board, doll houses, puppet theatre, train table, car mat, and board games for different ages. Reading kits and games can’t be checked out to take home but they can be enjoyed at the library.

If you do not have a library card you can stop by the library to sign up for one. A photo ID and proof of address will be needed, for those in town your city taxes are already supporting the library, therefore no additional fee is required. However if you want to get a card but you live outside city limits, you will need to go to the nearest library closest to where you live. Please bring a photo ID and a piece of mail so we can determine what library you’ll need. The Staunton non-resident fee is $35.00 a year. Every library has a different price range. The library card will also allow you to visit other libraries within the library system and check out books with the Staunton card provided it’s in good standing, such as, no fines and not expired. There are over 500 libraries in the system across the state now. It is easy, convenient and saves a ton of money by borrowing items instead of buying them. The library contact information is as follows: Phone number is 618 635 3852, email is [email protected], facebook page is librarypagestaunton.
