Terriers win on 8th Grade Night

The Staunton Terriers celebrated 8th Grade Night on Thursday, Jan. 12, with a 48-6 victory over Gillespie. The following individuals were honored at the event:

# 0 Owen Looney. Owen is the son of Doug and Rebecca Looney.

# 1 Lucas Dillon. Lucas is the son of Lance and Abby Dillon.

# 2 Lucas Coalson. Lucas is the son of Mike and Annie Coalson.

# 3 Peyton Luketich. Peyton is the son of Brian and Jessi Luketich.

# 11 Calvin Harbers. Calvin is the son of David Patzius and Emmalee Heiberg.

# 12 Jeremiah Graham. Jeremiah is the son of Antonio and Deedee Graham.

# 21 Ty Simpson. Ty is the son of Kirk and Sara Simpson.

# 22 Isiah Laux. Isiah is the son of Ty Laux and Corrie Allan.

# 23 Caiden Crowe. Caiden is the son of Nicole Koleske.

# 24 Luke Moore. Luke is the son of Steve and Amanda Moore.

# 25 Bryan Podwojski. Bryan is the son of Dan and Melissa Podwojski.

# 32 Owen Rizzi. Owen is the son of Brad and Amy Rizzi.

# 33 Braylen Brown. Braylen is the son of Greg and Christina Brown.

# 44 Josh Dahl. Josh is the son of Rich and Mary Dahl.

Manager Kolbi Carlen. Kolbi is the son of Jered and Renee Carlen.

Cheerleader Haley Armbruster. Haley is the daughter of Jimmy and Rachel Armbruster.

Cheerleader Natalee Lowe. Natalee is the daughter of Charlie and Kadie Lowe.

Cheerleader Lillie Price. Lillie is the daughter of Bobby and Tasha Meyer.

Cheerleader Katie Pritchett. Katie is the daughter of Ryan and Connie Pritchett.

Manager Ella Pirok. Ella is the daughter of Lukas and Jenn Pirok.

Multiple players scored during the game, including Moore (9 pts.), Coalson (8 pts.), Looney (6 pts.), Graham (6 pts.), Laux (6 pts.), Luketich (5 pts.), Rizzi (3 pts.), Podwojski (2 pts.), Brown (2 pts.), and Dahl (1 pt.).The Terriers also defeated Mt. Olive earlier the week by a score of 58-10. Laux popped in five 3-pointers to pace the squad with 15 points, while Moore registered all of his 14 points in the first quarter to also finish in double figures. Other scoring contributors included Looney (7 pts.), Simpson (6 pts.), Coalson (4 pts.), Luketich (4 pts.), Podwojski (4 pts.), Rizzi (2 pts.), and Brown (2 pts.).

The 7th grade team also swept the week with wins over Gillespie (32-7) and Mt. Olive (39-4). Paxton Brown notched double figures against Gillespie to pace the team, and he was aided by Aiden Saracco (5 pts.), Xander Clark (5 pts.), Cale Dugger (4 pts.), Kaiden Linkeman (4 pts.), and Blaine Sievers (4 pts.). The Terriers did not allow a point after the first quarter in the victory over Mt. Olive. Multiple players scored, included Dugger (12 pts.), Clark (7 pts.), Sam Frank (4 pts.), Saracco (4 pts.), Jack Burke (4 points), Brown (2 points), Sievers (2 points), Ethan Watters (2 points), and Chase Bodner (2 points).

The 8th grade opened play at the Greenville Invitational Tournament this week. Although Staunton has not been in the event for many years, the program has yet to win a game against a very tough field that includes big schools such as Triad, Salem, and Effingham. However, the Terriers received the #1 seed this year and opened play against Aviston on Monday. The tournament wraps up on Friday. The 7th grade team begins Regional action on Saturday at East St. Louis Lincoln. The Terriers received the #2 seed and will face #7 Wood River Lewis & Clark to begin postseason play.
