Franklin Junie Basden, 94, of rural Mt. Olive, Ill., died at his residence on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023. He was born Oct. 23, 1928, in Pilot Knob, Mo., the son of the late Frank David and Mary May (Malone) Basden. He married Eileen Mills, and they divorced in 1969. He later married Louise Keller, she preceded him in death on April 6, 2012.

He worked as a crane operator at Laclede Steel in Alton for many years. He served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper from 1946 to 1947. He was a member of the East St. Louis Masonic Lodge and East St. Louis Shriners. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and also enjoyed shooting pool.

Survivors include three children, Linda (Bill) Imel, Ron Basden, Carol Basden; three step-children, Arlene (Rick) Eller, Mike Keller, Kathy Storr; three grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; eight step-great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, David Basden, Don Basden; two sisters, Lucille Jones, Leona Huitt; one grandson, Jerry Conley; and one great-granddaughter, Adrianna Conley.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
