Kahl wins another term as Macoupin County sheriff

Macoupin County Sheriff Shawn Kahl was the winner on Election Day over Repub- lication challenger Jared DePoppe. Kahl had 9,621 votes to DePoppe's 8,203. Three of Staunton's four wards preferred DePoppe, but the county over- all voted for Kahl.

The race for county treasurer was won by Republication candidate Lillian Amber McGartland who unseated Democratic incumbent Roger Anderson. The final count was 17,623 to 10,948. Staunton was solidly behind McGartland with her winning in all four wards.

County Clerk and Recorder Pete Duncan was unopposed in his bid for reelection. Macoupin County's Super-

intendent of Schools Michelle Mueller was also unopposed.

Ryan Kilduff and Holly Klausing were the candidates for the Macoupin County Board. Klausing had 1,172 votes and Kilduff had 935. Both will be seated on the board.

In the statewide and federal races, Macoupin County once more voted solidly Republican but Democrats were the overall winners in most of the voting.


Voter turnout in Macoupin County was 57.56 percent. In Staunton 2,042 ballots were cast out of 3,807 registered voters.
