Still time to register for diabetes workshop

September 28, 2022

A limited number of spots are still available for the Take Charge of Your Diabetes Workshop that will begin at the Ralph and Josephine Oltmann Community Center in Staunton on Thursday, Sept. 29.

Participants are welcome to join during the first or second session, but registration will be closed after Oct. 6. Interested persons should call 217-930-2285 to register.

Take Charge of Your Diabetes can help those living with diabetes to thrive not simply survive. Take Charge of Your Diabetes, a free six-week workshop, can help you manage your diabetes or help you learn how to support someone who lives with diabetes. The workshop will meet every Tuesday for six weeks from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

The workshop was developed by Stanford University and provides ways to live healthy with diabetes. There is no charge to participate. It is free. Donations will be accepted.

Subjects covered are nutrition/healthy eating, monitoring blood sugar, fitness/exercise, stress management, medications, positive thinking, difficult emotions, avoiding complications, action planning, problem solving, and working with your doctor.

Past participants have reported that the workshop has helped them improve communication with doctors and family, taught them relaxation techniques that help control pain and other symptoms and helped them to set goals to effectively manage their diabetes.

This workshop is led by two trained leaders, who also live with diabetes or work with persons with diabetes. A companion book, Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions, and a relaxation CD are available for loan or purchase.

Funding for the workshop is made possible by a grant from the Area Agency on Aging for Lincolnland (AgeLinc).

Registration is required. To register for the workshop or for more information, contact Debbie at 217-930-2285.
