James Robert Dannis, 54, of Mt. Olive, Ill., died at his home on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2022. He was born on Sept. 26, 1967, in Litchfield, the son of Robert James and Jacqueline (Puckett) Dannis.

He attended Mt. Olive schools and received a GED. He went on to become a truck driver. He married Sharl Smith, and they later divorced.

James enjoyed fishing, deer and mushroom hunting especially at Shoal Creek. He loved playing Smoke'n Aces Poker, and his favorite food was a "good" grilled burger.

He is survived by his brothers, Dennis (Louise) Weiss of Mulberry Grove, William J.H. Weiss of Florida; his sister, Tesha Dannis of Edger Springs, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and parents; sister-in-law, Paula (Reese) Weiss; and special friend, Victor Bolar.

Visitation will be held at Becker and Son Funeral Home in Mt. Olive on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 12 noon until 1 p.m. when the service will begin. Burial will be at Union Miners Cemetery in Mt. Olive.
