Timothy Dove Cruthis, 87, of Sorento, Ill., died on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2022, at Hillsboro Area Hospital. Tim was a cancer fighter, having fought courageously for over 18 years. Tim was born Nov. 20, 1934, in Sorento, the son of Elmer and Mary (Dove) Cruthis. He married Carlene Harmer on June 25, 1953, at the Assembly of God in Sorento. She preceded him in death on Oct. 11, 2018.

Tim attended Sorento schools and went on to work for Olin Mathieson for 44 years. He also was a lifelong farmer, and he raised cattle and hogs. Tim was a member of the Assembly of God in Sorento, served as Township Supervisor for two terms and Village Trustee for three terms, served on the Sunnyside Cemetery Board for many years, as well as the Farmers Livestock Board, and was a member of the Teamsters Local 50. He loved his cows and riding around on his four wheelers and side by sides. Tim also loved selling his flowers, cantaloupes, and watermelons to anyone willing to buy.


Tim is survived by his children, Terry (Emma) Cruthis of Highland, Ronald Cruthis of Sorento, Carla (Randy) Schmidt of Hillsboro, Ritchie (Theresa) Cruthis of Sorento, and Paul (Tammy) Cruthis of Sorento; grandchildren, Timothy Schmidt, Brandi (Steven) Herter, Andrew Cruthis, and Shania Cruthis; two great-grandchildren; sister, Esther (Bill) Varner of Sorento; sisters-in-law, Pearl Cruthis of Sorento, Doris Bosco of Rosewood Heights, and Sally Ward of Houston, Texas; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife; stepmother, Bonadell Cruthis; and three brothers, Joy, Gerald, and Clarence Cruthis.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Sept. 11, at the Assembly of God in Sorento with Pastor Dennis Day officiating. Interment was at Sunnyside Cemetery in Sorento.
