Staunton will host their first Strassenfest

September 14, 2022

The City of Staunton will host their first ever Strassenfest this Saturday, Sept. 17, right on Staunton’s Main Street. Everyone is invited to join in the fun from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Free musical entertainment is on the agenda beginning at 3 p.m. The city has lined up special groups/performers for the occasion including The Damned Torpedoes doing their Tom Petty Celebration from 3 to 6 p.m.

The group, STL - Every Little Thing, takes the stage at 6:30 p.m. and keeps the music going until 10:30 p.m.

The music is important; but you can’t have a real Strassenfest without food, and this one offers all of the favorites. The menu will feature bratwurst, frankfurters, knockwurst, sauerkraut, cabbage, cucumber salad, funnel cakes and, of course, everyone’s Strassenfest favorite – pretzels. There will also be a lemonade stand to help satisfy that inevitable thirst after eating your fill of food and pretzels.

A special fun activity planned for Saturday is the sidewalk chalk contest. This contest is open to all ages so you can bring the kiddos or unleash your inner child and let your imagination flow. The sidewalk on Main Street between Union and Elm streets will be the artist’s canvas from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Chalk is being furnished by the city and every contestant will have a 4 x 4 ft. square space to work in. So grab some chalk, have a little (or a lot of) fun and get creative. There will be judging with entries divided into three age groups: pre-K to 5th grade, 6th to 12th grades and adult.

Mark you calendar for this Saturday, Sept. 17, and be at the first Staunton Strassenfest. Don’t let it happen without you!
