August will be busy month in Staunton

August promises to be a busy month with a variety of entertainment choices as Staunton hosts the Balloon Glow and Ribfest.
The Balloon Glow has been scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 20, at Firemen's Park in Staunton.
Everyone is invited to join your friends and neighbors at 4 p.m. to enjoy the colorful Balloon Glow which becomes even more impressive as the evening sky darkens.
There is no charge to attend and you are invited to bring lawn chairs, blankets, etc., to make your evening more comfortable.
Balloon rides will be offered for a fee only if weather permits.
There will also be bounce houses, food vendors, balloon artists and much more to add to your entertainment options.
The following Saturday, Aug. 27, will feature the 16th annual Ribfest at Firemen’s Park. Applications from cookers interested in competing in this year’s event are now being accepted.
Application blanks are available at city hall. Get your entry in as soon as possible – Aug. 19 is the deadline to enter this year’s cooking competition.
All judging will be done by members of the STL BBQ Society and all cookers competing must also be members.
If you are interested in competing in the '22 Ribfest, call Natalie at 618-635-2233 or email [email protected]. The entry fee is $75 plus $25 membership fee if not already a member of STL BBQ Society.
Cooking stations will be set up in the park at 6 a.m. Ribs will be distributed courtesy of the City of Staunton and Bill’s IGA. Cooking begins at 7 a.m.; judging begins at 2:30 p.m. and winners are announced at 4 p.m. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top five competitors.
Making the day more fun for everyone – even those who don’t cook, will be the live music.Playing from 2:30 until 5:30 p.m. will be The Original Fat Chance. Taking the stage from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. will be Hashtag 80.
Also, there will be ribs available all day for everyone to enjoy.
