Sidewalk and demolition approved

 


During Monday night’s city council meeting, the council agreed to proceed with the sidewalk project on Miller Street from Deneen Street to Franklin Street at a cost not to exceed $15,000 as budgeted. Alderman Hanks voted no. The

motion passed 6 to 1.

The council also approved demolition of a

condemned structure at 222 S. Edwards Street at a cost not to exceed $5,000. Alderman Hanks voted no. The motion passed 6 to 1.

A letter of resignation was received from part-time park and recreation employee Clyde Bradford, effective July 1. The council also received a letter of resignation from part-time police dispatcher Kylee Cherry with July 31 as her last day of employment.

City Clerk Dennis Stiegemeier announced that Governor Pritzker has signed a new Gubernatorial Disaster Proclamation extending the statewide declaration through Aug. 20, 2022, which allows public meetings to be held remotely.

In Public Health and Safety, the council agreed to pay an invoice from West Central Illinois Criminal Justice Council for Mobile Training Unit 9 annual dues for $1,150 effective July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2023.

Payment of an invoice from Brownlee Data Systems for the annual Village Police Maintenance Agreement for $1,800, effective Aug. 5, 2022, to Aug. 4, 2023, was approved.

In Utilities and Water, the council agreed to pay an invoice from Midwest Municipal Supply for the balance of materials used on the Streeb Lane water main project for $2,424.52.

The council voted to hire Jeffery W. Schoen as a full-time police officer as recommended by the Staunton Police Commission.

In Judiciary, a Pre-Annexation Agreement was approved with Timothy and Wendi Rose Powell regarding property located at 9335 Renken Road but not physically annexing the property to the city’s corporate boundaries at this time.

The first readings were given

for two ordinances approving charity roadblocks – one for Adopt-A-Pet on Oct. 8 and one for V.F.W. Post #1241 on Aug. 26 and 27.

The collector’s report included the following:

Staunton Police Dept - Sex Offender Registration $35, Ordinance Violations $100, Reports $10;

Macoupin County Circuit Clerk - Fine Disbursement $153.46, Arrest Agency Fee $106, E-Citation Fee $6;

Utility Tax - M.J.M. Electric Cooperative $516.77; Ameren Illinois $18,255.24;

State of Illinois - State Use Tax $13,824.51, MFT Tax $10,441.49, MFT Renewal Fund $7,466.50, Cannabis Use Tax $582.71, Telecommunications Tax $4,849.22, Video Gaming Tax $13,109.44, Sales Tax $64,664.29, Personal Property Replacement Tax $8,996.17, Income Tax $79,556.36;

Hotel/Motel Tax - Staunton Super 8 Motel $2,916.17.

Those present for the meeting were Mayor Craig Neuhaus, City Clerk Dennis Stiegemeier, Treasurer Cindy Pirok, Public Works Director Mike Kuethe, City Attorney Phil Lading, Police Chief Jeff Doerr, aldermen Rick Johnson, Ryan Machota, John Moore, David Manning, and David Dias. Aldermen Jeff Scanzoni and Randy Hanks attended electronically. Alderman Chad Plenske was absent.

The next council meeting will be on Monday, Aug. 8, at 7 p.m.
