Girard Man sentenced in school van theft

Macoupin County State’s Attorney Jordan J. Garrison has announced that Gregory A. Bolino has been sentenced to three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for his role in the theft of a van from the Northwestern Community School District #2. Judge Joshua A. Meyer delivered the sentence and further ordered Bolino to pay $5,800 in restitution to the school district.

In January of 2022, the Macoupin County Sheriff’s Department received a report that a 2009 Chevrolet van was stolen from the Northwestern School District. The Investigation Division of the Macoupin County Sheriff’s Department with assistance from the Illinois Secretary of State Police were able to recover the vehicle from a residence in Nilwood. Individuals had already scraped the Northwestern decals off the van and were in the process of cutting off parts.

Through the investigation, Lt. Det. Ryan Dixon of the Macoupin County Sheriff’s Department identified Bolino as a suspect who took possession of the vehicle from the individuals who stole the vehicle. Bolino was interviewed by Lt. Det. Dixon and admitted to driving the vehicle knowing it to have been stolen. He further admitted to starting to remove the catalytic converter.

“Today’s sentencing shows that thieves will be held accountable,” stated Garrison. “The swift actions of Sheriff Shawn Kahl’s department allowed for the vehicle to be recovered. Lt. Dixon, Sgt. Larry Rayburn, Deputy Todd Page, Deputy Tim Burnett of the Macoupin County Sheriff’s Department and Secretary of State Investigator Sgt. Chris Thomas coordination and efforts to solve this case should be commended.”
