Historical society held meeting

The monthly meeting of the Macoupin County Historical Society will be held Monday, July 11, at 7 p.m. in the Ruyle Building on the historical grounds at 920 West Breckenridge, Carlinville.

The speaker for this month is Larry Werline who will be sharing "Stories from the Life of Ulysses S. Grant." Most people with some historical interest know some facts about Ulysses Grant. He was the general who accepted the surrender of Robert E. Lee at Appomattox and went on to serve two terms as President. However, how did he get there from his humble beginnings? This first-person presentation will examine the course of his career through personal stories from his life and how these molded the man. Some of these stories are poignant, some humorous and all are revealing an American hero who has been described as an enigma even unto himself.

The public is invited to come hear this presentation, and the Ruyle Building is handicapped accessible.
