To You … With Love,

A while back, while spending time with our Layla, who was 7 years old at the time, she had a minor accident. It came about from her restless searching for a place to land and this time she chose to drape herself over my piano bench. The problem came when she fell asleep in that canopy position. As her body shifted side-wise the bench tipped over and laid heavily upon one of her arms.
As I helped her up, doing my TLC thing, I could tell she was struggling to hold back the tears. Finally one big tear bubbled out of her eye followed by a host of others. As I saw how brave she had hoped to be, I said, “Honey, it’s OK to cry. Sometimes one just has to.”
On Memorial Day, we remember, it is a day of tears. The colors of a nation’s flag, the white stones of the cemeteries blending in the morning sunshine with the “green, green grass of home,” as we weep at freedom’s price. Surely someone needs to cry. Someone just has to when they remember. It’s more than OK.
