Baseball Bulldogs out at Regionals

On Saturday, May 14, the Bulldogs played two home games to complete their regular season schedule. In the first game, the Carrollton Hawks defeated the Bulldogs 12-9. In the second game Saturday, Porta/Ashland-Chanderville Central defeated Staunton 6-5.

After losing their last two games of the regular season, the Baseball Bulldogs got back in the win column and defeated Roxana 13-7 in the opening round of state playoffs on Monday, May 16.

Staunton runs were scored by Matthew Sievers, Dillon Pritchett, Cayden Silvster and Cody Ury, 2 each; Adam Overby, Brady Gillen, Sam Best, Luke Meyer and Grant Neuhaus, 1 each.

Overby was the leading hitter, going 3 of 4 at bats and had 1 RBI. Other hits/RBIs were Best 2/2, Ury 2/1, Sievers 1/2, Meyer, Neuhaus and Pritchett 1/1.

Best pitched 4 innings, struck out 5, walked 2, gave up 2 hits and 0 runs. Silvester pitched 3 innings, struck out 4, walked 5, gave up 6 hits and 7 runs.


This win advanced the Bulldogs to play Columbia on Wednesday, May 18, at Alton Marquette.

Columbia won this game, defeating Staunton 14-4 in 6 innings. Staunton runs were scored by Pritchett 2, Best 1 and Silvester 1. Bulldogs hits/RBIs were by Pritchett 3/1, Gillen 0/2, Meyer 1/1, Best and Silvester 1/0.

Meyer pitched 1.2 innings, struck out 2, walked 2, gave up 11 hits and 11 runs. Neuhaus pitched 3.2 innings struck out 5, walked 1, gave up 3 hits and 3 runs.

The Bulldogs ended their season with a 9-15 record.
