Kathleen I. Silvester, 102, of Staunton, Ill., died Saturday, April 30, 2022, at Heritage Health in Staunton. Born Dec. 1, 1919, in Moline, she was a daughter of the late John and Nellie (Croxton) May. She married Alex Silvester on Dec. 1, 1940, in Carlinville, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 24, 1996.

She and her husband owned and operated the family business, Standard Oil Distributors, for many years. She was a loving mother, homemaker, and worked in sales at Russell Furniture in Staunton. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Staunton.

She is survived by three sons, Frank (Helen) Silvester of Florissant, Mo., John (Charlotte Dean) Silvester of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Anthony Silvester of Mt. Olive; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mildred Hausman; two brothers, Hugh May and John May (in infancy).


Funeral services were held on Friday, May 6, at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton with Rev. Kelly Mitteis officiating. Burial was at Memorial Park Cemetery in Staunton.
