SHS National Honor Society induction ceremony

TECIA SILVESTER FOR THE STAR-TIMES

NHS Inductees took part in the candlelight induction ceremony into Staunton High School's Chapter of the National Honor Society.

On Friday, April 22, there were 22 new members inducted into the Staunton High School Chapter of the National Honor Society. This ceremony is a great source of pride for the Staunton School District, as well as for the community. This ceremony celebrates not only the academic achievement of these students, but also their dedication to being leaders within our school and community, their commitment to making good choices and having good character, and their willingness to serve when needed.

After a candlelight procession of members and the candidates, and introductory remarks by speaker Kate Wineburner, the induction ceremony was conducted by president Samuel Best, vice-president Koral Keehner, and treasurer Joseph Cisler. Secretary Teagan Lorenz led the new members by candlelight and asked them to pledge to be faithful to the four tenets of the National Honor Society: scholarship, leadership, character, and service.

After chapter president Samuel Best called each new member forward and NHS sponsor Jessica Larsen presented pins to the new members, Kate Wineburner, who was selected as this year's speaker, took the podium again and gave a very inspirational speech in which she ended, "While it may be easier to go through life without a purpose, with a purpose, you will go to places you never would have expected. You will meet goals that you never thought you could meet."

Officers for next year are Andrew Dustman, president; Zachary Painter, vice-president; Emma Saracco, secretary; and Samantha Schnefke, treasurer. The National Honor Society advisors are Katie Baima and Jessie Larsen.
