Shelby Embry, 5-year-old daughter of John and Denise Embry of Staunton, was honored by the Illinois Air National Guard with the Young Hero Medal of Honor. Shelby demonstrated exceptional courage and bravery in the face of a life-threatening illness. She was nominated by one of her pediatric cancer nurses.
Bill and Ilene Henke of Staunton will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on April 13.
Louise M. Chura (69) of Staunton died March 31 at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield.
Norma L. Wathern (91) of Staunton died April 7 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Staunton.
Paul James Mayfield (74) died April 2 at the family home in Staunton.
Lester F. Freeman (72) of Livingston died April 4 at his residence.
Wanda Jayne Deal (50) of Staunton died April 7 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Staunton.
Joseph Paul Krivan (79) of Vero Beach, Fla., formerly of Livingston died March 9 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla.
Evelyn Perkins Makler (78) of Mobile, Ala., formerly of Staunton, died Feb. 27 in Alabama.
Issue of April 11
It was discovered that City Treasurer Erin Cavanaugh Sternickle’s term will not expire as thought. Kathy Legendre’s name will appear on the ballot for the position but the votes she receives will be invalid.
Staunton High School Principal Ed Fletcher and freshman Adam Brown had their heads shaved after the school reached their goal collecting funds for childhood cancer research.
A son was born to Josh and Tricia (Henke) Lamb of Imperial, Mo., on Jan. 13.
A daughter was born to Heather Meseke and Jason Lewey of Hillsboro on March 21.
A daughter was born to Ron and Sara (Lotter) Hampton of Glen Carbon on March 12.
Bill and Ilene Henke will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on April 13.
Lawrence and Lucille Reddo will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary on March 18.
