Two part-time police officers resign

During the Staunton City Council meeting on Monday night, resignation letters were accepted from Christopher Barnes and Drew Sloan as part-time police officers for the city. Sloan commented that his full-time job with the sheriff's office is now requiring a lot of overtime hours that doesn't allow him to serve at Staunton. In other business the city's updated official zoning map was adopted and authorized for

publication.

Staunton's balloon glow agreement with WindDancer Balloon Promotions was approved. This year's balloon glow is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 20, from 3 until 10 p.m. and will include two hot air balloons for tethered rides for a minimum of two hours, weather permitting. The city agrees to pay WindDancer a total of $2,950 and a percent- age of each tether ride plus other costs. A total of up to four hot air balloons will be provided for the balloon glow event.


In Public Health and Safety,

the council agreed to pay an invoice to Leads Online for annual Total Track Investiga- tion System service package for $1,416. The service dates are May 1, 2022, through April 30, 2023.

A quote was approved from CDS Office Technologies for five laptop computers with an- tennas to be installed in police cars in the amount of $15,050. Alderman Randy Hanks voted no. The motion passed 7 to 1.

In Finance and Claims, the council agreed to pay $12,000 to Hart, Southworth, & Wits- man for professional services rendered (bond counsel repre- sentation) for the Gensing Creek box culvert replacement project. Aldermen Rick Johnson, Chad Plenske, and Hanks voted no. The motion passed 5 to 3.

The low bid from Laugh- lin Electric was accepted for back-up generators at various locations throughout the city of Staunton with the bid amount being $50,070. The only other bid received was from MAC Electric Company with their bid of $59,687. This will be paid from the American Rescue Plan Act relief dollars. Hanks voted no. The motion passed 7 to 1.

In Utilities and Water, a quote was approved from Schulte Supply, Inc. for stock radio read meters with antenna assemblies for $2,958.

The council voted to proceed with the Timberview loop water main project and the Streeb water main project. Materials have already been approved and purchased.

The council also voted to pro- ceed with the Lakewood Drive water main replacement project at a cost not to exceed $12,000 for materials. Design engineer- ing has already been approved.

The collector’s report in- cluded the following:

Staunton Area Ambulance Service - Feb. and March Dis- patch Fees $1,000; Staunton Police Department - Reports $10;

Ameren Illinois - Utility Tax $38,849.84;

State of Illinois - State Use Tax $22,988.11; Income Tax $37,217.24; Video Gaming Tax $10,250.13; Telecommunica- tions Tax $5,284.45; Cannabis Use Tax $742.82;

Staunton Super 8 Motel - Ho- tel/Motel Tax-January $974.20; Hotel/Motel Tax-February $1,421.66.

Those present for the meeting were City Clerk Dennis Stiege- meier, Treasurer Cindy Pirok, Police Chief Jeff Doerr, City Attorney Phil Lading, Public Works Director Mike Kuethe, aldermen Jeff Scanzoni, Rick Johnson, Ryan Machota, John Moore, Chad Plenske, Randy Hanks, and David Manning. Alderman David Dias attended electronically. Mayor Craig Neuhaus was absent.

The next city council meeting will be on Monday, April 11, at 7 p.m.
