Interim junior high principal employed

The Staunton School District welcomes Bill Carpenter as interim junior high principal. He was hired during a special board of education meeting on Feb. 28. He will serve until the end of the current school year.

Carpenter, a retired administrator, has recently served as an administrative consultant for Bond County CUSD #2. Prior to his retirement, he was the building principal for Sorento Elementary School.

During his educational career, Carpenter was often recognized for his outstanding service to the Greenville and Sorento community. In 2008 he was named the NAESP Distinguished Principal of the Year. Furthermore, in 2014, he was recognized by the Illinois Principal Association when he received the Kaskaskia Region's Outstanding Leadership Award.

During his tenure with Sorento Elementary School, the school was named a Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education.

Prior to serving the Greenville Educational Community, Carpenter was an administrator for the Pleasant Plains School District. During his teaching career, he was a junior high physical education and district-wide athletic director.

While his stay with the Terriers will be short, the district is fortunate to have his experience and skills for the remaining few months of the school year.
