Airplane crash at Route 4 and DeCamp Road

Emergency landing The disabled plane sits in a field off of DeCamp Road in rural Staunton after an emergency landing on Sunday morning. The pilot and two passengers were unhurt.

An airplane crash with no injuries took place in the area of DeCamp Road and Illinois State Route 4 in Staunton on Sunday, Feb. 20, at 11:11 a.m.

The silver 1948 Navion L-17B single engine aircraft was piloted by Albert D. Meinen, a 62-year-old male, from Troy. Passengers were Donald G. Torrini, a 79-year-old male from Edwardsville, and Joseph Garrett, a 71-year-old male from St. Jacob.

Preliminary investigative details indicate that ISP District 11 troopers responded to an aircraft crash at the above time and location.

The pilot made an emergency landing in an open field after experiencing a loss of power. There was minor damage to the aircraft as a result of the landing. All three occupants refused medical treatment on scene.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are continuing this open and on-going investigation.
