The Staunton JHS Terriers recently wrapped up regular season play. After having games against Mt. Olive and Gillespie canceled due to COVID concerns, the 7th grade finished its season on Friday, Jan. 14, at Calhoun. Both teams came into the game undefeated, and Staunton was able to keep its record spotless (21-0) with a 42-32 victory. Isiah Laux and Luke Moore each pumped in 16 points to lead all scorers. Lucas Dillon (6 pts.), Peyton Luketich (3 pts.), and Lucas Coalson (1 pt.) rounded out the scoring. The 7th graders recently received the #1 seed in their own Regional which was set to begin on Saturday and will wrap up on Wednesday night at 6 p.m.

The 8th graders finished their regular season campaign at the notoriously tough Greenville Tournament. On Monday, Jan. 17, the Terriers fell to Effingham St. Anthony by the score of 47-13. Carter Legendre (7 pts.), Bryce Coalson (4 pts.), and Cole Rather (2 pts.) scored for SJHS. The team came back the next night against Triad and played better in a 54-27 defeat. Ashton Rizzi and Aaron Bodner led the way with 6 points each, and they were joined in the scoring column by Coalson (4 pts.), Matthew Overby (4 pts.), Rather (4 pts.), Cason Kapp (2 pts.), and Nate Oller (1 pt.).

The Terriers now await their Regional seed before beginning postseason play on Saturday, Jan. 29, at East St. Louis.
